Follow Us on Twitter & Facebook
ConstructionJobs.com strives to be as available and ready to act on your behalf as possible, so it is with excitement that we announce that we now have accounts on both Twitter and Facebook.
If you follow our site on Twitter, you will have rapid access to featured postings of positions under our "Job of the Day" tweet. The style of presentation that Twitter encourages will allow us to send notices out frequently and apprise candidates like you of promising positions, tips on writing resumes, reminders to update your profile so it stays vital, and more.
Of course, reading an update from us on Twitter will take only a few seconds, but the information we send might be timely and valuable … so follow us closely!
Likewise, if you have a Facebook account, you can click into the link to Facebook on ConstructionJobs.com and maintain an updated and inviting profile of yourself on that popular social site. Beyond that, professionals like you who rely on our site to keep you connected to the strongest positions available in the industry can visit us often: our client companies regularly post the positions they need to fill. Those positions can advance your career and strengthen our clients' roster.
The advantages of linking to us through Facebook are greater than mere social mobility, of course. Not only can employers find your profile and resume, but you can access this network as another means of following new postings of open positions that our client companies are seeking to fill.
The addition of access to these two tools doesn't change the more thorough and straight-forward content of ConstructionJobs.com. On our site, you will still find the full service to candidates that distinguishes our work from that of our competitors (see the article below) and the more complete listing of positions our clients must fill. We can still assist you in creating an effective and eye-catching resume and navigating our site efficiently. So visit ConstructionJobs.com often.
But our accounts on Twitter and Facebook are our latest effort to serve you in a way that fits into your busy lifestyle as easily and helpfully as possible.

One in a Thousand
We at ConstructionJobs.com are delighted to reprint the following press release from WEDDLE'S, the world's largest publisher of print guides to job boards. We are pleased that WEDDLE'S selected ConstructionJobs.com as one of the Top 100 job boards from among the more than 100,000 job boards now operating on the Internet.
Being selected as a Top 100 Site means that we are, literally, one in a thousand, and we are proud that our recognition by WEDDLE'S means that we are serving you well and maintaining the principles that drive us to try to serve you better.
"ConstructionJobs.com is honored in being selected as one of the elite in the job board industry. All of the employees at ConstructionJobs.com take pride in our job board and strive to make our site an effective and efficient resource for our clients and job seekers," said Charlie Kimmel, president of ConstructionJobs.com.
Called the "Zagat" of the online employment industry by the American Staffing Association, WEDDLE's released its selections in conjunction with the publication of its 2009/10 Guide to Employment Sites on the Internet.
Here, then, is the Press Release:
Stamford, CT. June 23, 2009
WEDDLE's, world's largest publisher of print guides to job boards, includes ConstructionJobs.com in the elite of the online employment services industry.
Why should job seekers care
about this news? Because job boards work.
- In a recent survey
of 17,000+ working men and women, using a job board was identified as
the single best way to find a job in today's tough environment.
Over one-third of the respondents said they found their last job on
a job board—more than four times greater than the next highest response—and
almost two-thirds said they expected to find their next job that way.
- In the same survey,
eight-out-of-ten employers said that new hires sourced online were among
their best employees. For that reason, over a third of the
respondents were filling half of their openings through job boards and
over a quarter were actually filling three-quarters of their vacancies
that way.
The challenge for working men
and women and employers alike is figuring out which sites to use.
The Top 100 list is one way to do that. The Guide describes
each site in the Top 100 with a detailed profile of its services, features
and fees for both job seekers and employers. It also includes
a directory of over 10,000 other job boards organized by career field,
industry and geographic focus.
"Our Top 100 employment sites
are the elite of the job board industry," says WEDDLE's Publisher
Peter Weddle. "They have the strongest brands, the best services
and the most distinguished track records of the sites we've seen on
the Web. Are there other good sites out there? Of course.
But the Top 100 selectees are truly in a class of their own."
The site selection methodology
included a comprehensive review of information submitted by the sites
describing their features, services and fees as well as information
provided by job seekers, employers and recruiters who have used the
site. In addition, each site was visited to assess its user experience
and level of maintenance.

Two Sure Things in Job Search
All of us have heard that there are only two sure things in life, death and taxes. In the construction business there are perhaps a number of sure things, two of which would surely be that weather will be a factor with any project and there will always be change orders.
But what about Job Search, are there any sure things? Let me suggest that there are at least two and they are a little more upbeat than the ones mentioned above. The two sure things I am talking about are (1) the most successful job searches are conducted through your network and (2) your job search will be most successful if you learn how to grow and manage your network.
As a job seeker, you need to network. I know I might be stating the obvious here. Many of you may already understand the value of networking. Many of you may already belong to Job Networking groups and may have used various approaches with people you know to seek their help in finding a job. Whether you are doing some networking or have not yet started, I would like to suggest the following.
Networking is hard work. It requires planning and it requires that you have a process.
Here is the process.
- Identify – Your Network may be much bigger than you think. Think of people that you have some contact with, church members, former clients, social networks (LinkedIn, Facebook), former co-workers, alumni members, etc.
- Value – All contacts in your network are not equal. Some bring more to the table and thus can help you more in your search than others.
- Measure – Even though someone in your network is of high value, your relationship with that person may not be great. How strong is your relationship with each person in your network?
- Rate – How often can you go to the well? Based on value and relationship you need to determine how frequent your requests for job assistance can be made without breaking that relationship.
- Track – Keep a log of each person in your network that you have contacted for help. Track the activity, referrals etc.
Remember, the more people who know that you are looking for your next great job, the quicker you will get that next great job!
If you would like to implement this process as part of your Job Search Plan there are FREE forms available at www.spinstrategy.com. Click on the Tools tab. If you need some help in implementing this process call Dan Ridge with CATO Services Inc. They can provide you with these forms and suggestions on how to use them in your process.
